South Indian Vegetarian Food Restaurant-Hot And Delectable
Indian cuisine is regarded as the finest among other continental cuisines, in favor of the diversities and health benefits it offers. Whenever we speak about authentic Indian food, it has its individual and exceptional essence from southern and northern parts of India.

South Indian food consists of sizzling Curries, lots of rice and a much lesser amount of meat than North Indian food. Vegetarianism is the custom here rather than a preference, and the foremost item in each meal is a huge mass of white … Continue Reading

My Trip to India – Part III: Kerala – The Elephants of Thekkady

Take Out

Take Out

$18.35

Sean Baker and Shih-Ching Tsou make their feature debut as writer/directors with the documentary-style DV drama Take Out. Korean-American actor Charles Jang stars as Ming Ding, a Chinese illegal immigrant struggling to make ends meet working as a deliveryman at a take-out restaurant. His day begins when he is rousted, beaten, and threatened with more violence by two men over an 800-dollar debt, which he incurred because he felt obligated to send some money back to his wife and child in China. Ming scrapes together what he can. His co-worker, Young (Jeng-Hua Yu), lends him some money, and offers to forgo his deliveries for the day so Ming can make more cash. The film follows the stoic Ming, who speaks little English, over the course of the day as he interacts with the cooks and restaurant manager (Wang-Thye Lee, an actual employee of the restaurant where Take Out was filmed), and races in the rain on a multitude of deliveries on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, interacting with a broad spectrum of New Yorkers. The filmmakers made Take Out on an extremely low budget, even by indie standards, using the Internet to find their cast, and shooting at the restaurant during business hours with a skeleton crew. Take Out was shown at the 2004 New York Asian American Film Festival and at the 2004 Nashville Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize. ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi

Understanding Indian Movies (Paperback)

Understanding Indian Movies (Paperback)

$29.57

Indian movies are among the most popular in the world. However, despite increased availability and study, these films remain misunderstood and underappreciated in much of the English-speaking world, in part for cultural reasons. In this book, Patrick Colm Hogan sets out through close analysis and explication of culturally particular information about Indian history, Hindu metaphysics, Islamic spirituality, Sanskrit aesthetics, and other Indian traditions to provide necessary cultural contexts for understanding Indian films. Hogan analyzes eleven important films, using them as the focus to explore the topics of plot, theme, emotion, sound, and visual style in Indian cinema. These films draw on a wide range of South Asian cultural traditions and are representative of the greater whole of Indian cinema. By learning to interpret these examples with the tools Hogan provides, the reader will be able to take these skills and apply them to other Indian films. But this study is not simply culturalist. Hogan also takes up key principles from cognitive neuroscience to illustrate that all cultures share perceptual, cognitive, and emotional elements that, when properly interpreted, can help to bridge gaps between seemingly disparate societies. Hogan locates the specificity of Indian culture in relation to human universals, and illustrates this cultural-cognitive synthesis through his detailed interpretations of these films. This book will help both scholars and general readers to better understand and appreciate Indian cinema.

Out In the Sun

Out In the Sun

$10.39

Aptly titled, Out in the Sun picks up where 1976’s The Story of I left off, carrying on with rhythms drenched in Latin and Brazilian styles. Recorded both in Brazil and Patrick Moraz’s home country of Switzerland in 1977, Out in the Sun brings up the liveliness another notch, this time with a more spacious approach to the South American sound. As Moraz dishes out a vast array of playful keyboard mélanges, it is such instruments as Indian finger cymbals and Chinese gongs that add variance to every track. Distant voices and bird sounds are put in as a backdrop by way of Moraz’s synthesizers in “Time for a Change.” Moraz employs numerous Moog keyboards and Hammond organs throughout the course of the eight tracks, but none take away any of the natural tones and primal auras that surround each one. “Rana Batucada” and “Kabala” are both beautiful instrumentals glazed with Brazilian percussion, while “Out in the Sun” blends congo drums and synthesizer together to form a highly entertaining instrumental mixture. All the keyboard work on Out in the Sun comes off as warm and unrestrained, helping to lay the groundwork for its pure tropical sound. ~ Mike DeGagne, Rovi

Take a Seat (Paperback)

Take a Seat (Paperback)

A remarkable journey of sharing and self-discovery  When Dominic Gill set out from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, by bicycle on June 16, 2006, it was to be no ordinary bike ride. His goal was to reach Ushuaia, the southernmost city in South America, nearly 20,000 miles away, and he was starting off with virtually no money in his pocket, barely enough food to last a week, and, worst of all, with thousands of miles between him and his friends and family. But Dominic had a plan: His bicycle, Achilles, was a tandem and the spare seat was his secret weapon. He would invite strangers to join him on his long journey—strangers he hoped would become friends and help him turn a terrifying prospect into the adventure of a lifetime.  In Take a Seat, Dominic tells the story of his incredible journey. Over twenty-six months, he covered 18,449 miles down the west coast of the Americas, passed through fifteen countries, was looked after by countless strangers, crashed into a Mexican banana truck, was nearly attacked by a mob of Bolivian political demonstrators, cycled past active volcanoes, and didn’t have a single haircut. All sorts of colorful characters took a seat on Achilles—from a meditating, pot-smoking French Canadian named Pierre to the dark-haired Joselyn from Chile. Eventually, he reached Ushuaia, freezing and exhausted and with another new friend behind him—the 270th person to take that seat. He had achieved his dream. * In summer 2010, Domin
